wtf this guy drifts this thing?! i guess i shouldnt be suprised
Allegedly the fb is actually a great drift chassis, better than the fc or fd…
I’m surprised more people don’t drift them tbh.
I doubt it’s better. It’s wayyyy lighter though. The suspension design is old and I think it has a 4 way link in the back as well??
recirculating ball steering and the fact most are 12A powered really kill any drifting potential. I’d love to rock a sa22c but frankly the cards are stacked against it.
I’m just going based on what I’ve heard from someone who owns both an fb and fc and drifts. Obviously in stock form the fb isn’t a better platform, but with some mods it’s actually pretty good. I think a lot of people over estimate how good fc’s and fd’s are for drifting. Since they’re heavily geared toward sport driving the seating position is a lot more low slung(?) and the balance is a little less prone to easy oversteer, where the fb/sa is a little more upright (this is a terrible description). I never realized how not good the fc was for drifting until I drove an s13 and everything made sense to me.
Edit: also what komeiju said - you can find them for like 600 bucks so the amount of money you could possibly have left for mods is a lot…
I’ve found some really, really good caged SCCA racers for like 2000$. Even if the chassis is apparently not that bad you still have to deal with the 12A. IDK I’ve never had a drift car or something along the lines of a project car (really just worked with Vespas) and going into the unknown with a fairly unproven chassis that has 3 major strikes against it really doesn’t inspire much confidence. Oh yeah and it has a solid rear axle. Take what you want with that info, you can’t adjust toe tho.
They’re terrible for drifting. Whoever told you otherwise is a dunce. It’s a 70’s designed chassis with a shitty watts link and unequal length 4 link with steering box. They’re recipe for disaster. They’re near impossible to drive with a rear sway bar because they snap over-steer like crazy. Depending on how good your steering box is, they usually have bulk slop.
That being said, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned and the most fun to drift in because of all it’s flaws, but it’s funny when dudes think you can just jump in one and treat like an S13.
